Borehole Hole Investigation
Borehole investigation unit is mainly responsible for carrying out foundation investigation for bridges, subsurface exploration to find out properties of soil strata for the pavement designs of highways, and to carry out remedial measures such as drilling work required for the landslides that have occurred besides roadways.
Drilling Units
We have two drilling units presently and have three drilling machines and necessary equipment. The drilling units’ stores are located at our laboratory premises in Rathmalana.
What we are doing at the site and laboratory
We have trained staff to log the samples collected while drilling. At each 1.5 meter interval of depth Standard Penetration tests (SPT) are being carried out and samples are sent to carry out laboratory tests if needed. If it is necessary Undisturbed Samples are taken and required tests will be carried out to get soil parameters. Generally, 3meters of rock samples are taken from each borehole then they are tested in our laboratories. The investigation procedure is in compliance with BS-EN 1997-1, BS-EN 1997-2, BS-1377, ICTAD Technical Specification.
